Easter & Spring Activities

Science Center
Math Center
Here students are doing the above activity.  These look like Tie-dye Easter Eggs.  This is another activity I use from Sue Kerr's - Learning Centers - Science Through The Alphabet.  If you would like to order her great Learning Center books just click on the underlined link.
Here students are using their seven tangram pieces to make a rabbit.
Writing Center
Students are making a pop-up book.   Besides writing each sentence, students must illustrate, cut-out & glue on the picture.  Students here practice forming their letters, copying from the chart and then reading it back to each other.  The book goes as follows :
See the egg.
See the egg crack.
See the egg hatch.
See the chick.
Here is a close-up example of my writing center.
Reading/Listening Center
This is how we decorated our windows for Spring.  These are butterflies and flowers with tissue paper under the frames.  You can't hardly see the tissue paper in this picture but it looks really cute!
These are flowers using the kids handprints as the petals, forearm as the stem and their feet are the leaves.  I put their pictures in the middle.  These are adorable!.
These are our forsythia bushes.  We made a vase out of wallpaper, glued on brown strips and added 1" square yellow tissue paper. You take the yellow tissue paper & wrap it around the top of your pencil.  Then you dip that in glue and dab it on your brown stip and viola, it sticks.
This is Mrs. Fox's Class' Flowers.  They are a little different from our class.  See those above if you want to compare.
This is Mrs. Stone's Class' flowers that they made.  They made theirs out of paper plates and construction paper.
Our Easter Quilt
Here are the Easter baskets we made.  They are made from one gallon milk jugs.  We glued on cotton, stapled on ears, added whiskers & a pink nose.  They are so cute.  See one below up close.
"April Showers Bring May Flowers."  We traced umbrellas from wallpaper books & added feet.  Students then added tissue paper dipped in glue with pencil eraser to give the flowers a 3D effect.
We made giant Easter Eggs to hang.  On one side we used condensed milk mixed with food coloring & students painted it on.  You have to let them dry overnight.  Then we turned it over and colored it with either crayons or markers then added glitter.
Students colored these boy/girl Easter Bunnies.
This is Miss Range's 2nd Grade Spring Bulletin Board.  They used 1 inch square tissue paper and smoothed it down over the top of the eraser.  They dipped it in glue with their pencil eraser and put in on their flower to give it a 3D texture.
Graphing & Estimation - I put jelly beans in a jar for students to guesstimate how many are in the jar.  We then sampled jelly beans & students graphed their favorite flavor of jelly bean.
We used our hands to make the bunnies.  The girls were white & the boys were brown.  For the squares we used triangles.  This was a fraction lesson on halves.  As you can see this was difficult for Kindergarten students.  Some of them did a good job.  We always raffle our quilts at the end of the month. The kids love winning these.
Learning Center Ideas
My Easter page is in the process of being updated!  This holiday was too close to St. Patrick's Day this year.  Please be patient as my pictures load on this page.  More activities are to come soon.
